Green Chorlton
Chorlton's Big Green Festival is a green get-together that takes place every year in the sunny suburbs of south Manchester. The free event launched in 2009, with an estimated 4,000 people joining in the first-ever festivities. In 2010, the second celebration of all things eco and ethical was even bigger and better, with 6,000 local residents sampling sustainability in fun and friendly surroundings at the all-day Big Green Festival on Saturday 27 March, a further 70-odd attendees at the What Next? Forum on Thursday 25 March and full houses at the various fringe events that took part in the run-up to festival week.
Chorlton's Big Green Festival puts environmental issues centre stage with a vibrant and varied programme of live entertainment, activities and workshops, and festival-goers are encouraged to get involved with swapshops, a bike parade and a huge ceilidh. There's also plenty of tasty, responsibly sourced food and drink to boost those green energy levels and plug our "growing locally" theme!
Green Chorlton is a not-for-profit organisation that now aims to build on the success of the festival by developing eco-friendly community projects and activities throughout the year. Our first venture is the greening of the youth centre on the St Clement's site, where we hold the festival. More details soon, so keep checking back...
